Philippines seeks deal with China for joint oil exploration

(MENAFN) The Philippines was declared to be targeting a deal with China to be secured for a joint oil exploration before a meeting is held with Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte in Beijing.

Both countries have already made a resolution in February for a special panel to be established to explore ways for the joint exploration of offshore oil and gas.

The exploration is aimed to take place within spots that are claimed by both Philippines and China, leaving out topics of sensitive concerns related to sovereignty.

Philippine ambassador to China Jose Santiago Santa Romana stated "we're trying to see if we can achieve an agreement, hopefully within the next couple of months."
