UN official: Myanmar is not prepare to take back Rohingya refugees
(MENAFN) Myanmar's declaration of readiness for the return of Rohingya refugees has been completely dismissed by a senior UN official.
Assistant secretary-general for humanitarian affairs Ursula Mueller suggested "from what I've seen and heard... conditions are not conducive to return."
The statement has been made following a six-day visit to Myanmar by the official, spending time with government officials holding talks.
The UN official explained "I witnessed areas where villages were burned down and bulldozed... I've not seen or heard that there are any preparations for people to go to their places of origin."
