(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Will Nakheel retain the trophy? Or will Doha Pest Control lift it for the first time ever? Those are the questions doing the rounds when they clash in the final of Sixth Workers' Cup tomorrow. The kick-off is at the Al Duhail Stadium at 7pm.
Holders Nakheel stormed into the final by defeating ALYSJ 4-2 on penalties after the teams were level 1-1 at full time. Doha Pest Control too had to sweat it out en route to reaching the title clash as they put it across last year's runners-up Al Asmakh FM 8-7 on penalties when they played out a 1-1 draw after 50 minutes of regulation time.
Both semi-finals of the tournament, organised by the Qatar Stars League and sponsored by Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy, were played on 9th March. Nakheel and Doha Pest Control reached the first knockout stage (Play-Offs) in contrasting style. The defending champions got the better of Bouygues, Youth Club and NAAAS by big margins, while Doha Pest Control eked out narrow wins over Cofely Besix Mannai, Galfar Al Misnad and L & T Qatar.
Nakheel defeated Mowasalat in the pre-quarter-finals and G4S Qatar in the quarter-final, whereas Doha Pest Control beat Trags Engineering and Spartan Ready Mix. Later, ALYSJ finished third following an easy 3-0 win over Al Asmakh in the play-off held on 16th March, with Eric Boateng, Vincent Nortey and Ezequiel Kouku scoring the goals. Ezequiel was the man of the match.
Matches are played on Fridays in the tournament that started on 2nd February. Entry is free for the public. The tournament's main objective is to promote a culture of sport and healthy lifestyle in the community of migrant workers engaged in various projects across the State of Qatar, especially those related to the infrastructure of 2022 FIFA World Cup.
