Jordan- King meets with Dutch Senate President, House of Representatives Speaker


(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) The Hague, March 21 (Petra) - His Majesty King Abdullah II met Wednesday in The Hague with Dutch Senate President, Ankie Broekers-Knol, and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Khadija Arib and discussed with them relations between Jordan and the Netherlands and regional and international developments.

In the meeting, King Abdullah voiced pride in the historical friendship between Jordan and the Netherlands, which share common values that would enhance cooperation between them to achieve peace and justice in the world.

The King also expressed appreciation for the Netherlands', which prioritizes Jordan on Dutch development cooperation programs, especially in light of challenges arising from regional crises and the Syrian refugee crisis, emphasizing that support should be sustainable and has a long-term impact.

King Abdullah stressed the necessity of continuing coordination and consultation between the two countries on issues of mutual concern, saying Jordan is keen to expand mutual cooperation, especially in the legislative, economic, investment, trade and technology fields.

In a welcoming note on behalf on the Dutch Senate and House of Representatives, Broekers-Knol lauded as deep-rooted the relations between Jordan and the Netherlands, voicing the desire to take relations to higher levels, noting that King Abdullah's visit to the Netherlands is very important, and that the two countries are looking forward to strengthening cooperation in various fields, especially in economic spheres.

She spoke about developments in the Middle East during the past years, especially the devastating repercussions of the war in Syria.

Broekers-Knol commended Jordan's ability in addressing difficult challenges surrounding the Kingdom and maintaining its security and stability, adding that Jordan enjoys wide international respect as an important stabilizing factor in the region and for its humanitarian role towards the refugees.

Challenges associated with the war on terror and instability underscore the need for cooperation among international partners, because these challenges can only be addressed by working together, Broekers-Knol indicated.

The long-standing strategic partnership between Jordan and the Netherlands is developing continuously, the Dutch Senate President, said, adding that both countries stand side by side in the war on terror and exert efforts to achieve peace, security and prosperity in the region and the world.

The meeting underlined the importance of simplifying the rules of origin between Jordan and the European Union (EU) to facilitate access of Jordanian exports to the European markets and enhancing opportunities for new investments in the Kingdom.

The meeting tackled challenges and crises facing the Middle East and efforts exerted to reach political solutions to them, as well as regional and international efforts in the war on terror, within a holistic strategy.

It also discussed developments related to the Palestinian issue, as His Majesty the King underlined the need to intensify efforts to revive the peace process between the Palestinians and the Israelis, based on the two-state solution, the Arab peace initiative and the international legitimacy's resolutions, leading to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The important role of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) was reviewed, and the importance of supporting the UN agency to enable it to continue providing its educational, health and relief services.

At the end of the meeting, His Majesty King Abdullah signed a guestbook at the parliament of the Netherlands.
