Pakistan- Villagers protest against delay in payment of compensation amount

(MENAFN- Tribal News Network) MARDAN, 19 March: Dozens of residents of Babuzai area of Katlang tehisl on Monday gathered outside the Deputy Commissioner office here to protest against delay in payment of compensation amount for their land acquired by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government for the Swat Expressway.

The villagers, led by Nazim of Village Council Babuzai, Iftikhar Mashwani staged the protest demonstration to press the government accept their demand and pay the outstanding dues.

The villagers alleged that the provincial government acquired about 60 acres of their land for the Swat Expressway but it neither notified the rate of the land nor it paid the due amount.

'Majority of the farmers are poor and they have no other land to cultivate. They provided their cultivable land to the expressway in the best interest of the country. It is being circulated among different circles that the government will pay compensation to the affected villagers at Rs10,000 per marla which is not acceptable to us,' Mashwani said while talking to TNN.

He said the villagers should be paid proper amount for the land.

The Assistant Commissioner of Katlang tehsil, Ameer Muhammad told the protesters that the process of payment to the villagers was delayed due to the strike of the patwaris as the official business was at standstill for the last one month. He assured that government would soon pay the outstanding amount to the villagers.
