Jordan working to eliminate all forms of discrimination against women, says minister


(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman, Mar.17 (Petra) -- Minister of Social Development Hala Bseiso Lattouf, said Jordan continues to make efforts to implement its international obligations under the agreements it has ratified, by integrating the 2030 sustainable development agenda into local development plans.

Lattouf gave her remarks as she chaired the Jordanian delegation to the sixty-second session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) in New York entitled: "Challenges and opportunities in achieving gender equality and the empowerment of rural women and girls." She added that Jordan is one of the first Arab countries to integrate gender into its national policies, where a special focus has been devoted to the social protection of women and a special focus on women, environment and climate change has been also added to the national strategy for women in Jordan.

In the session's opening speech, Lattouf underlined that Jordan is working to eliminate all forms of discrimination against women, despite great challenges it faces, especially in light of the waves of refugees, pointing out to legislative reforms carried out by Jordan in this regard.

In the gathering, which runs through March 23, the minister called on the international community to play its role in alleviating the suffering of Palestinian women and girls under the Israeli occupation, who struggle for justice and grant them all their legitimate rights to live in dignity, as development cannot be achieved without independence.

On the sidelines of the meetings, the Social Development Minister met with a number of donors and international agencies officials.
