UCL Qatar prepares for its postgraduate Open Evening

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) University College London in Qatar (UCL Qatar) has said it is preparing for the arrival of prospective students as it gets ready to host its postgraduate Open Evening.
The event, which is open to the public, will take place on Georgetown University's Education City campus on Monday, from 6pm.
The Open Evening is the first event to take place in a week-long showcase of UCL Qatar's various contributions and partnerships in Qatar, celebrating the country's higher education and cultural heritage.
The showcase, called UCL Qatar Week, includes a public lecture in partnership with Qatar National Library (QNL), titled ‘Seeing Yourself in History with Community-Based Archives: On Building the Award-winning South Asian American Digital Archive', and the ‘Sudan's Ancient History: Hwida and Maawia Investigate Meroe's Iron' children book launch on the UCL Qatar research in Sudan, part of the Qatar-Sudan Archeological Project.
The Open Evening is for the public to learn more about the university's academic programmes and see the campus and facilities firsthand. Visitors can learn more about UCL Qatar, accommodation and the student experience, life in Qatar, the admissions process and the two distinguished programmes offered: MA in Library and Information Studies and MA in Museum and Gallery Practice.
'We hope that prospective MA students will use this opportunity to learn more about our strong academic history, programmes and the range of opportunities available to UCL Qatar students, said Ciara Canning, Student Recruitment and Affairs officer. 'Both programmes offered here at UCL Qatar are unique in their focus on Qatar and the Arab world, offering research-based learning and international work-placement opportunities to students.
The event will include representatives from both programmes as well as campus life, who will be on hand to answer any queries prospective students might have about life in UCL Qatar. Student Recruitment and Services staff along with current students and alumni will be there to meet and speak with visitors and share tips and advice on applying to UCL Qatar.
The presentations that will take place during the Open Evening include a welcoming word from UCL Qatar director Sam Evans, an introduction of the courses offered and an outline of the application process. They will all be live streamed on Facebook from 6.30-7.30pm.
The public lecture, which will take place on March 20, will be given by Michelle Caswell, assistant professor of Archival Studies in the Department of Information Studies at the University of California, Los Angeles.
