Qatar's beIn hit by another Egyptian decision

(MENAFN) On Monday, Egyptian court gave Qatar's beIN Sports chief executive Nasser Al Khelaifi, who is also the president of Paris Saint-Germain another hit after accusing beIN of forcing its Egyptian customers to replace their existing satellites to obtain their services.

A fine of 400 million Egyptian pounds (Dh83.4m) has been handed down after prosecution by the Egyptian Competition Authority (ECA) in a Cairo economic court.

The fine is the second one BeIN has incurred in Egypt after a similar one was imposed in January.

This move comes in a time where relations between the African and Gulf two countries are already strained.

In early June, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Egypt and Bahrain severed diplomatic and trade ties with Qatar, accusing Doha of supporting terrorism and destabilizing the Middle East, while Qatar, for its part, slammed the measures as unjustified, stressing that they are based on false claims and assumptions. It also denied the accusations, describing attempts to diplomatically isolate it as a violation of international law and its national sovereignty.
