Jordan- Trade deficit rises by 9.9pct in 2017

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman, Feb. 25 (Petra) -- Jordan's trade deficit increased by 9.9 percent in 2017 driven by a 3.5 percent decline in the total exports' coverage of imports, according to official figures released Sunday.

The data, by the Department of Statistics, indicated that total exports in 2017 amounted to JOD5.3 billion down by 1.1 percent compared with the figure recorded in 2016. National exports edged up 1.8 percent to JOD4.47 billion while re-exports shrank by 13.9 percent to JOD828 million.

The figures revealed that the Kingdom's imports during 2017 inched up by 5.6 percent to a total of JOD14.488 billion.
