(MENAFN- Asia Times) The Philippine Consulate in Dubai says it can only accommodate 100 applicants per day for clearance from the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in order to comply with new UAE "good conduct" requirements for foreign workers.
Consul Paul Raymond Cortes said the consulate had received 1,945 applications for NBI clearance between February 1 and 20, but could only handle 100 a day, reported.
The consulate launched an online appointment system for fingerprinting for NBI clearance, but only allotted 100 slots per day.
'We are sorry but we can only accommodate around 100 applicants because we only have one staffer dedicated for this process,' Cortes said.
Last year, only 995 NBI clearance certificates were processed. Cortes said the increase of applications was due to the requirement of a "good conduct" certificate for migrants applying for a work visa in the United Arab Emirates. The NBI clearance is equivalent to a certificate of good conduct granted in the worker's homeland.
