Kuwait- US says all foreign aid under review

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) WASHINGTON, Feb 2 (KUNA) -- Following President Donald Trump's national address in which he spoke out against nations who voted against his controversial decision on Jerusalem, the United States on Thursday indicated all foreign aid is currently under review.

"I think the president was clear in his State of the Union address, that US, and he, and this administration are committed to ensuring that the American foreign service serves American interests first. I'm going to be clear about saying that, to all of the aid is currently under review right now," State Department spokesperson Heather Nauert said.

During his speech, Trump called on Congress to pass legislation that would undergird his threat against countries, which vote against his policies at the UN, following a scathing referendum there last month on his recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital.

Before the UN vote, Trump threatened countries that dared vote against him, warning it would be unacceptable for "of these nations that take our money to then vote against us." Separately, Nauert lauded the Kingdom of Jordan's decision to cut ties with North Korea, after the US called on all countries to cut off trade and diplomatic ties with the Hermit Kingdom after it carried out a series of weapons test months.

It follows similar moves by Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates.

"I think that shows the strength of our relationship with the country of Jordan, the government of Jordan, and the king of Jordan," Nauert said. (end) ny.mb
