US based Bentley Institute LPU jointly set up Centre of Excellence at LPU Campus

(MENAFNEditorial) Jalandhar: In collaboration of US based Bentley Institute, Lovely Professional University has established Centre of Excellence at LPU Campus to provide the best practices and latest know-how about construction engineering to its civil engineering students. In the form of BIM Advancement Laboratory at the campus, this significant Centre is to nurture Building Information Modelling (BIM) engineering knowledge among both students & educators. BIM is a shared digital representation of the physical and functional characteristics of any of the built objects, including buildings, bridges, roads and more for their design, construction, and operation of infrastructure. This digital representation forms a reliable basis for any of the solid decisions to be taken in construction engineering. It is highlighting to forward that the UK Government mandated use of BIM on large public projects to derive significant improvements in cost, value and environmental performance.

On this collaboration, Vice President and Global Head Bentley Institute, Vinayak Trivedi said: In these days of mega Infrastructural projects the focus of architects, engineers, constructors, owner-operators is on executing projects within time and cost. On these lines, it is important for students also to supplement their knowledge with practical experience of cutting edge technologies and tools. It is equally important for engineering institutes to expose students to the big picture of project execution so that they become competitively employable. I personally think that this can only be achieved through Academia Industry collaboration, and the BIM Advancement Lab established at LPU (Punjab) is indeed good medium to bring all that together. Academic Manager, South Asia Bentley Institute, R Arun Kumar and Managing Director of Innovative Systel Rominder Bedi were also present on the occasion.

In fact, BIM brings together all of the information about every component of a building, in one place. BIM makes it possible for anyone to access that information for any purpose, e.g. to integrate different aspects of the design more effectively. In this way, the risk of mistakes or discrepancies is reduced, and abortive costs minimized. BIM data can be used to illustrate the entire building life-cycle, from inception and design to demolition and materials reuse. Spaces, systems, products and sequences can be shown in relative scale to each other and, in turn, relative to the entire project. And, by hinting any wrong detection, BIM prevents errors creeping in at the various stages of development/ construction.

Executive Dean at LPU Dr Lovi Raj Gupta appreciated the world class facilities meted out to LPU faculty and students to make the best use of the technology. LPU Dean Civil Engineering Prof Rajesh Kumar, Professor and Associate Director Training and Placement Dr Harpal Thethi and Deputy Director Varinder Singh were accompanying Dr Gupta. LPU students were guided to accept and understand new things and innovative changes around them. Students were also informed that such technologies and processes, implemented at the campus, will definitely create a road to success for them. Contact Information
