UAE- UAQ to get two water desalination stations

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Two new water desalination stations worth Dh900 million will be constructed in Umm Al Quwain.

Mohammed Saleh, director-general of the federal Electricity and Water Authority (Fewa), said the new stations are meant to meet the increasing demand in view of the emirate's incessant expansion. "The two new water desalination stations will be producing 45 million gallons of water on a daily basis."

The mega project is expected to be completed after two years, he added. "The opening of tenders will be done in the coming two weeks."

The project is one of the strategic plans of Fewa to improve its services and give a boost to the infrastructure facilities all over the country, said Saleh. "Fewa has carried out a number of important development projects in the water sector of Ajman and Umm Al Quwain this year."

Saleh added that no new fees have been slapped against consumers for late payment of Fewa bills. Consumers are expected to make payment against Fewa services within 24 days. "Text messages are sent to the consumer to alert him or her to make due payment so as not to have the service stopped. Failing to do so within four days of sending the sms to the consumer's registered mobile number; the Dh100 fine is added to their account."

Some consumers have reportedly reconnect the service in accomplice with the watchmen in violation of law.
