(MENAFN) Following a series of poisonous campaign against Republican Roy Moore, Doug Jones has claimed his victory in the election, marking him as the first Democrat in 25 years to win a US Senate seat for Alabama.
The Republican majority in the Senate was narrowed to 51-49 as a result of Jones' unforeseen triumph which also hit hard Moore's supporter including President Trump.
Roy Moore declined the idea of conceding late Tuesday with the votes of 99 percent counted.
