Kuwait's medic services to cancer patients similar to those of developed countries

MUSCAT, Dec 12 (KUNA) -- Kuwaiti specialist in Nuclear medicine Dr. Samira Al-Tailji said Tuesday that the medical services to cancer patients in Kuwait are similar to those in developed countries.
Al-Tailji, who is a specialist in nuclear medicine at Hamed Al-Essa Hospital (Organs Transplant Center) in Kuwait, made the remarks to KUNA, on the sidelines of her participation, at Gulf Nuclear Medicine 7th Conference, which started in Muscat last Sunday.
Al-Tailji added that Kuwait has a high-level scientific expertise and ongoing global training aimed at reaching a high quality health care.
The number of cancer cases in Kuwait is increasing, especially breast cancer in women and lung in men, in addition to prostate, thyroid and blood, and such increase not only occuring in Kuwait, but also all over the world, she said.
The causes of these cancers in is still unknown, as some are likely to be due to environment, food pollution, and other factors to genes and viruses, the specialist noted.
This conference, Al-Tailji said is attended by 250 participant and is a valuable opportunity to see the latest in scientific research and diagnosis of cancer diseases, where global lecturers will shed light on the endocrine gland, pediatrics and tumors imaging.
The four-day conference will discuss international developments on tumor imaging, lung cancer imaging and neoplasma, and how Molecular Imaging can be used to improve treatment of certain tumor.
Kuwait hosted the Gulf conference four years ago and made several important recommendations in the field of nuclear medicine, which reflects the importance of finding ways to treat cancer patients. (end) ma.kns.ss
