UAE- Reckless driver gets jail for carrying alcohol in car in Sharjah

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) An African was sentenced to seven months in jail followed by deportation for flouting traffic rules that posed risk to road-users, and for carrying alcoholic beverages in his vehicle.

The Sharjah Criminal Court handed the man - in his twenties - the jail term after hearing the caseon Tuesday.

The police was notified last August that a non-Muslim African was driving his car menacingly on a Sharjah road. The police patrol spotted the accused as he drove recklessly. While driving dangerously, he was also deliberately causing noise.

The police flagged down the vehicle and nabbed the man. They found a huge quantity of alcoholic beverages hidden in the rear of the vehicle.

During police interrogation and court hearing, the accused said that he was a non-Muslim and confessed that he had no permission to sell or consume alcohol.

He admitted that he possessed the drinks for commercial purpose and intended to sell it to people.
