Palestinian authority affirms seeking legal action against London

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) RAMALLAH, Nov 4 (KUNA) -- Palestinian Foreign Minister Riad Al-Malki affirmed on Saturday that his department would task a British legal office to press a libel suit against the United Kingdom.

In a statement to Voice of Palestine radio station, Al-Malki said the Palestinian authority was seeking legal action against London after the latter celebrated the 100th anniversary of Balfour Declaration.

The Palestinian foreign Ministry will ink an accord, in a week, with British legal agencies to pave way for filing libel suits at the British courts, he said, adding that identical legal action would be sought with tribunals of European countries.

The ministry had said in a previous statement that it planned legal action against London to coerce it apologize to the Palestinian people and pay "proper compensations" to them.

Meanwhile, Mahmoud Al-Aloul, deputy chief of the Palestinian group Fatah, said in a statement to KUNA that the Palestinian authority would take "several moves to prosecute Britain at international tribunals." The Palestinian Foreign Ministry has lambasted London's celebration of the Balfour Declaration, on November 2, saying the expression of jubilation on the somber occasion depicted "insensitivity and irresponsibility." The ministry added that it would encourage Palestinians namely those with British citizenship to seek compensations for the damages they have suffered due to the declaration that paved way for establishing Israel.

Palestinians in diaspora have held demonstrations and protests demanding that London apologize for the tragedies that had happened due to the "proclamation of the State of Israel" in the 40s of the past century. (end) nq.rk
