(MENAFN)Hamas gave control of the Gaza Strip's borders with Egypt and Israel to the Palestinian Authority on Wednesday after signing the landmark reconciliation accord last month.
The handover proves that Islamist movement Hamas is committed to the deal which would let Hamas give up control of the Gaza Strip and put an end to a 10-year dispute with rivals Fateh.
Hamas has also dismantled its entire checkpoint along the border with Israel, and left only the one operated by the Palestinian Authority (PA) there, with trucks carting away furniture and material.
A ceremony was then held in order to formalize the handover at the Rafah border with Egypt.
