Delhi: Cop's tweet scares kidnappers to release held hostage

Delhi-based Varun Vohra, an MNC executive, who was kidnapped would have never thought that twitter would come to his rescue. On July 1, Deputy Commissioner of Police Surender Kumar tweeted about Vohra missing.
The tweets scared the kidnappers who then let Vohra go.
Vohra told police that kidnappers kept withdrawing cash from his account from several ATMs.

Informants will soon be issued 'Police Mitra' cards

In a bid to increase their information base, district police will soon provide 'Police Mitra' cards to active citizens in Gautam Budh Nagar.
In light of how understaffed the force is, officials believe such initiatives will help them utilize available resources to its full potential.
The card will lend credibility and ensure safety of the informant who will provide valuable insight to the cops.
Gurugram police seizes 21 overloaded trucks in last 2 days
Gurugram
In a bid to keep a check on overloaded trucks from plying on the roads, the Gurugram police seized 21 dumpers from across the district.
The police said that the impounded trucks were haiba trucks, which are allowed to load up to 25 tonnes of goods but they weighed 50 tonnes.
All the drivers were arrested on the spot, but one managed to escape.
Students caught cheating during Delhi University's entrance exams
Education
Numerous reports of cheating during Delhi University's (DU) entrance exams are making headlines, including the exams held at Hindu, Kirori Mal and Hansraj colleges, and at Law Faculty on Sunday and Monday.
DCP (North) Jatin Narhwal said that one person has been arrested for impersonating during LLB entrance exam at Law Faculty.
Principal of Hansraj college also caught two applicants with cellphones on Sunday.
Rescue van service launched for women in Gautam Budh Nagar

District magistrate BN Singh inaugurated the Bolero Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) in Gautam Budh Nagar, which is a rescue van that will provide emergency assistance to women in need.
This service comes a year after UP government launched the 181 women's helpline in order to provide medical and legal aid to women in UP.
Women can extensively call the helpline number for assistance.
Delhi CM seeks report on non-disbursal of scholarships to students
Education
Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal has asked Chief Secretary (CS) for a report on why scholarships to students belonging to SC, ST, OBC categories and minorities were not disbursed in 2016-17. Atleast 5.57 lakh students were affected.
Kejriwal also directed CS to ensure that all pending scholarships are distributed by end of July.
Over 50,000 scholarships have not been disbursed in the last two years.
Teenage boy jumps into drain in Najafgarh in Outer Delhi
Death
17-year-old Monu allegedly committed suicide by jumping into a drain in Najafgarh on Sunday. His cousin Sonu jumped in to save him but could not.
The police was alerted after a passerby noticed the two boys in the drain. Sonu was rescued but Monu had drowned. His body was recovered on Monday evening.
Sonu is undergoing treatment in a private hospital.
Delhi: Rainwater getting wasted because of lack of harvesting system
Environment
Despite National Green Tribunal's order of mandating flyovers and bridges to have rainwater harvesting system, 35 flyovers which have a system in place don't serve much.
Environmentalist Vinod Kumar Jain said, "About 5 MLD of water is getting wasted only because we don't have a system in place. If only the government could act and make provisions, rainwater harvesting can be of great help."
