Civilian killed in blast, 8 militants eliminated in clashes


(MENAFN- Pajhwok Afghan News) GHAZNI CITY/ SHARAN (Pajhwok): Eight Taliban and a civilian have been killed as a result a bomb blast and clashes in southern Ghazni and southeastern Paktika provinces, officials said on Wednesday.

Ghazni police spokesman Fahim Amarkhel told Pajhwok Afghan News the bomb exploded in the 2nd police district of the provincial capital at around 9am. One civilian was killed and a policeman wounded.

Mohammad Naeem, an inhabitant of the locality, said the explosives device had been attached to a motorcycle, €œThe explosives went off when a police vehicle was passing by,€ he added.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the blast.

Separately, three Taliban were killed and three others wounded in infighting in the Marzko area of the Sarowzai district of Paktika, the deputy police chief, Col. Dadullah Khan Hotak, told Pajhwok.

A source in the militant movement said the clash erupted between former Taliban districts chief Shaheen and other fighters.

€œShaheen€™s fighters, collecting money from people, were challenged by other Taliban and thus the gunbattle took place,€ he said. Three fighters were killed and as many wounded.

The deputy police chief said three other militants were killed in Mata Khan district by their own landmine. Two others were killed in clashes with security forces in Janikhel district.
