Oman- OHTC investing RO100mn to construct ten hotels

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- Oman Hotels and Tourism Company (OHTC) has announced that it is investing RO100mn to build ten three and four-star hotels in a number of governorates. This is part of the company's five-year business plan 2017-21 with which it plans to have 2,000 rooms.

On the sidelines of a press conference held at the Tulip Inn Downtown Muscat, on Wednesday Oman Hotels said that the rebranding has been done to present the company's objectives and attitudes in future.

The new brand has been tailor-made to combine modernity and heritage and showcase links between the history of Oman and the company's history that goes back to more than 45 years. Mohamed bin Abdullah al Khonji, chairman, OHTC, said, 'Oman Hotels will ink required agreements for launching the first two projects within two months, which includes an RO13mn four-star hotel in Al Khuwayr (220 rooms) and an RO7mn three-star hotel in Duqm (200 rooms). We will also see the introduction of new international brands in addition to local operators.' According to Khonji, the five-year plan targets building world-class high standard 2,000 hotel rooms through close cooperation with international companies.

'We are very keen that our products [hotels] are compatible with Sharia'a. Our past experiences in hotel management show that we have been successful. We have invested in many projects in the past that have achieved great success. 'This has encouraged us to come up with more projects that can contribute to the development of the tourism sector and meet future demand.

'We carry out many studies and research for tourism attitudes and market, population growth, urban directions and the needs of specific regions before starting our projects,' said Khonji. He also highlighted that the company supports government's policies on enhancing partnership with the private sector and its efforts to support Omanisation in the country.
