Italy-ENI to pay USD350mn tax to Mozambique

(MENAFN) Italian energy firm ENI will pay Mozambique's government USD350mn in capital tax after selling part of its share in a gas field to Exxon Mobil.

Moreover, the sale concerns Area 4 of the Rovuma basin gas field, the southern African nation's Tax Authority (AT) proclaimed.

Additionally, the amount shows 32 percent of the USD2.8bn deal between ENI and Exxon Mobil for a 25 percent share in Mozambique's offshore gas field.

Meanwhile, the capital gains tax to be paid by ENI is seen as a relief for Mozambique's budget which has been affected by donors' decision to halt foreign aid.
