(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- ISC Uttaranchal Wing recently held its first badminton tournament at ISC Multipurpose Hall in Darsait for its members.
There were more than 50 entries in different categories and 55 matches held in all. This showed the zeal and enthusiasm of the members of all age groups; some members came all the way from Ibri to participate in the event. Considering the popularity and response from members, the wing's management has decided to include this sporting event in the annual calendar of the Uttaranchal wing in the coming years.
While Vijay Rawat took the Men's Singles title by beating young school boy Milind Naithani, Anju Sharma lifted the Ladies Singles title by beating Sumitra Raturi and Krishna Negi was the winner of Kids Singles by beating Sakshi Semwal. The Men's Doubles title went to Vijay Rawat/Mahesh Kala who overcame a stiff challenge from the young team of Milind Naithani/Arush Uniyal. In Ladies Doubles, Pushpa Negi/Rekha Naithani won over Anju Sharma/Bhavna and the title for Mixed Double went to Anju Sharma/Anil Kumar who defeated Pushpa Negi and Vijay Rawat.
At the presentation ceremony, trophies were awarded to the winners and runners-up by chief guest Percy Pereira. In his address, convener Govind Negi thanked the umpires, participants, chief referee Ronnie Pereira, chief guest Pereira and the audience who cheered and encouraged the players during every game. He also thanked the management committee members and especially the sports secretary of Uttaranchal wing Manoj Bisht for his efforts to conduct the event successfully. Also, there was a motivational speech by chief guest Pereira, emphasising on the fitness and 3 S, namely,speed, stamina and strength, in any sport and particularly in a game like badminton.
