IOM says 6,000 migrants saved from Mediterranean

(MENAFN) the International Organization for Migration (IOM) announced that over 6,000 migrants were rescued on the central Mediterranean way linking Libya and Italy in the past few days.

In addition, IOM stated that about 500 migrants are thought to have drowned so far during 2017, containing 22 deaths just registered by the Libyan coast guard.

Spokesman Joel Millman posted that March is almost done and IOM is already struggling at a pace of arrivals that has surpassed anything it has seen before in the Mediterranean.
