Xinjiang aims to shut 117 coal mines


(MENAFN) Northwest Chinese Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region stated that it wants to close about 117 coal mines during 2017.

The country announced these mines are mostly small mines with an annual output below 300,000 tonnes.

Additionally, Xinjiang further revealed that it has phased out 17 coal mines in the preceding year, cutting capacity by 2.4 million tonnes.

Xinjiang claims abundant coal resources with predicted reserves of 2.2 trillion tonnes and generated 150 million tonnes last year.
