300 Marines arrive in Norway for 6-month deployment


(MENAFN) In Norway, 300 US Marines had arrived for a 6-month deployment, with another batch of troops to replace them in July.

Since the World War II, it"s the first time that Norway had allowed foreign troops to be stationed in the country, as several thousand troops were recently sent to Poland to aid Eastern European allies who worry about an increasingly bold Russia.

Rune Haarstad, a Home Guard spokesman had said: "For the first four weeks they will have basic winter training, learn how to cope with skis and to survive in the Arctic environment."
