Italy adopts 2017 budget, opens way to Renzi resignation

(MENAFN- AFP) The Italian parliament on Wednesday approved the country's 2017 budget, opening the way for the resignation of Prime Minister Matteo Renzi after his defeat in a referendum on constitutional change.

Renzi's government won a vote of confidence in the Senate by 173 to 108, clearing the final hurdle for adopting the budget approved by MPs last week. President Sergio Mattarella on Monday had asked Renzi to delay his departure for a few days to enable the budget adoption to take place.
