Oman- Water supply cut in 3 wilayats of North Batinah

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- Supply of water to some houses in the wilayats of Saham, Khabourah, Suwaiq in North Batinah has been cut for the past one week causing much hardship to users.

Meanwhile, the Public Authority for Electricity and Water (PAEW) has said only those households have been affected which are yet to get connected to its new pipeline network.

Omar al Abdusalam from Saham said, 'Water supply has been cut off for the past eight days without any warning. We do not have wells to draw water.'

He said that the problem has got aggravated as cut in supply is putting pressure on tanker owners as they have to supply water to hundreds of households. 'We can't flush toilets, wash dishes or even cook. We are ordering food from restaurants. We are surviving on bare minimum water.'

Qais Hilal, another resident of Saham said, 'We can live without electricity for days but not without water. We are willing to buy water from tankers but availability is a big problem. I was forced to get my laundry work done at a neighbour's house.'

Nasser al Hosni, a resident of Khabourah, said, 'They just disconnected the supply without any notice.'

When Hilal called up PAEW hotline to know about the problem, he was asked to pay the authority RO75 for installing a new meter and connecting his house to the new pipeline network.

Speaking to Muscat Daily, an official from PAEW said, 'Hundreds of households in the wilayats of Saham, Khabourah and Suwaiq who were supplied piped water by a private firm were asked to switch over to the PAEW's network. The process is on for the past two years.

'We had published advertisements in newspapers that the process has to be completed by July 18, 2016 after which water supply will be cut off. The old pipelines are being gradually removed. Many houses are already connected to the PAEW network and they have not been affected. Many citizens have switched over to our network since the announcement too.'

PAEW said that its new pipelines will allow constant flow of water without any disruption. 'They just have to pay RO75 fee to install a new meter and get connected to the pipeline network,' the authority said.
