(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) A sports analyst who allegedly insulted a local sports club on air during a TV programme has been released on bail.
The local sports club complained to the
Police that in a TV interview the analyst said things that had the potential to spark tensions between its fans and fans of other clubs. The public prosecution said it has recently launched a campaign against violence and hooliganism related to sports be it physically or verbally. "Sports is a mass activity which enjoys
government and social support for it features elegant morals and most important is tolerance and respecting others" the public prosecution said. It reaffirmed that enjoying and watching sports events in a safe environment is a right the law guarantees to all segments of the society including the sports institutions and entities. The law criminalises any offensive behaviour that breaches that right whether by words or actions. "That is not in conflict with the freedom of opinion and the right for subjective criticism as long as it is made within the frame of public manners and the principle of respecting others" the public prosecution added.
