(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) >The Evangelical and Catholic communities here on Tuesday demanded that the U.S. government remove its married homosexual ambassador claiming he promotes a LGBT agenda that is out of step with the Christian cultural values traditions and laws of the country.
Adding to the anger is the fact that James Brewster attends official functions and presents his husband Bob Satawakwe to children in public and private schools as if his model of a family were “good and valid” according religious leaders.
The Dominican Republic´s constitution recognizes marriage only as the union between a man with a woman.
“We ask President Danilo Medina to complete a protest warning or remove the US ambassador because every day this man is violating Dominican laws and we consider his acts as meddling and abuses of power" said Fidel Lorenzo president of the Dominican Evangelical Confederation (COUDE) which represents 9000 Christian churches with 1.7 million members.
COUDE supports a petition posted March 8 on the White House’s website that seeks Brewster’s removal from his post as ambassador.
The petition has so far collected 30232 signatures but needs another 69770 before April 7 in order to receive a response from the White House.
Lorenzo told Anadolu Agency that since Brewster’s arrival in November 2013 he has supported the inauguration of an LGBT Chamber of Commerce as part of his homosexual agenda.
In a statement the Dominican Bishop Confederation rejected what they say is Brewster’s overreach concerning domestic issues and criticized a speech he delivered in which the ambassador lashed out at his critics by saying they should return their US visas.
“We are not against Brewster as a person and we do not discriminate against him because of his sexual preference but his abuses of power violate internal and international laws" the confederation said.
A government spokesman said the Dominican Republic would take a position on this issue but did not say when that could happen.
