(MENAFN - Arab News) Saudi Ambassador to Jordan Sami Al-Saleh on Thursday urged Jordanian security authorities to hunt down criminals who have attacked Saudi citizens living in the country and ensure their security.
Al-Saleh's statement comes after two gunmen stole a car belonging to a Saudi with a diplomatic passport after opening fire at him. The man was attacked Wednesday while he was leaving for the Kingdom.
According to sabq.org electronic newspaper the victim received gunshot wounds to his stomach and left thigh. The assailants took off in his car.
The gunmen hijacked the car and ordered him to drive on. After a time they started beating him up. The Saudi eventually lost control and hit a sidewalk on Azraq Road where the criminals disembarked and fled.
The Saudi has been hospitalized and his condition is stable a source said adding that the criminals had stolen his money as well as his diplomatic and ordinary passports and SR1500 in cash.
The victim later informed police and the Saudi Embassy with the help of a compatriot.
A Jordanian security source said they have already arrested one of the two gunmen and are looking for the other adding that they have found the man's car about 40 km away.
Mohammed Al-Balawi Saudi Embassy spokesman said the Saudi citizen was attacked when he resisted the gunmen's move to run away with his car.
