awqaf to host 35 muslim scholars
abu dhabi — the general authority of islamic affairs and endowments (awqaf) is set to receive 35 muslim scholars and thinkers to deliver about 800 lectures on all shariah-related topics during the month of ramadan at mosques centres and universities.
the ramadan lectures will enrich people’s knowledge of the topics said mohammed matar al kaabi director-general of the authority during awqaf’s first media briefing in abu dhabi on sunday.
the official also commended the wise leadership for giving directives to promote communication between the federal departments and the society.
“based on a strategy the general authority of islamic affairs and endowments is working on besieging extremist religious rhetoric which abuses islam and offends nations as well as on immunising the society and generations against its dangers and goals which have been exposed in arab and muslim countries.
“extremist ideology has receded thanks to the wise leadership’s authentic approach to islam’s moderation tolerance openness” said al kaabi. — wam
it would also conduct its iftar programme in 25 mosques in the country distributing 100000 meals at a cost of dh1.1 million and iftar to fasting people in 800 mosques in 22 african asian and european countries at a total cost of dh6 million.
addressing a press conference ahmed mohammed mismar secretary-general of the association said the association aims to raise dh25 million to offer special programmes and projects to the needy families inside and outside the uae
“the campaign being organised under the slogan ‘ramadan al khair (welfare) includes distribution of ramadan ration iftar meals for the fasting zakat (alm) al fitr zakat in money and eid gifts of clothes” he said.
one of its key programmes is the charity fund (zakat) it raises from philanthropists he noted and praised the dubai islamic humanitarian doundation of dubai islamic bank and majid al futaim charity foundation in this regard. “launching the annual ramadan campaign is to keep in touch with the philanthropists who will be encouraged to support the poor and needy through the association’s programmes and projects inside and outside the country.”
before eid al fitr the association would distribute 10000 zakat al fitr worth dh800000 to the needy. eid al fitr gifts of clothes will also be distributed before eid to the orphans and needy people at a cost of dh145000. the campaign will be accompanied by media and advertising drives to send out its message to emiratis and expatriates.
