Kuwait boasts 2nd blood bank


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) In a big ceremony held Saturday, Minister of Health Ali Al-Obaidi and Minister of Social Affairs and Labor Hend Al-Sabeeh put the foundation stone for the second blood bank in Kuwait. The bank would be built in Adan neighborhood in Mubarak Al-Kaber Governorate with KD five million-donation from the Cooperatives Projects Committee, a civil society organization. "The new bank would help save lives and secure blood for growing number of patients, particularly those suffering from leukemia," said Al-Obaidi in a speech at the ceremony. He pointed out that the new project is expected to receive over 500 blood donors on a daily basis as it will serve the southern governorates of Mubarak Al-Kaber, Farawaniya and Al-Ahmadi. The Minister thanked the Cooperative Projects Committee's for its generous donation to build the new bank and its social responsibility role. For her part, Hend Al-Sabeeh, also minister of state for planning and development, said the project shows the strong partnership between the government and civil society organizations in serving the community. She noted that the Cooperatives Projects Committee is affiliated to the retail Cooperative Societies. The Cooperative Societies Co. allocates part of its annual profits to the Projects Committee to finance projects that serves the community in which they operate in. Al-Sabeeh added that the government is keen on helping civil society organizations fulfill their mission and serve the society.
