UAE - Ziban strikes gold in Abu Dhabi Jiu Jitsu Cup


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The 14 year old Syrian pupil from Abdul Jaleel Al Fahim School in Abu Dhabi been competing for the last four years and his objective this year is to take part in the World Jiu Jitsu Cup for juniors in the Capital City this April



"I was runner up in the Abu Dhabi Cup last year and to win it second time around is a big step forward for me," Ziban said



He had given up the Sport after trying his hands on it when first introduced in the school's curriculum



"I tried and didn't like it," he said. "However, I was encouraged after watching it on television and watching some of the competition in Abu Dhabi. I re-joined the classes again and started to enjoy it



"Now it is my first love. I am enjoying every moment of it. Winning the gold medal today in my weight division has provided me with motivation to work harder for the next competition



"I train three days a week for over an hour at the UAE Jiu Jitsu Federation and also spend some time to practice during the 20-minute break at school every day.



The opening day of the Abu Dhabi Jiu Jitsu Cup saw more than 600 juniors in action and a majority of them had the same ambitions as Ziban. Zayed Saleh Al Kurbi, a 14 year old Emirati, travelled from Al Gharbiya
