House Panel On Power Discusses Grid Stability Amid Rising Electricity Demand

(MENAFN- KNN India) New Delhi, Jun 3 (KNN) The Parliamentary Consultative Committee of the Ministry of Power, chaired by Union Power Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, met in Chandigarh to review issues related to grid stability amid rising electricity demand and increasing renewable energy integration besides other pressing issues related to the sector.

The meeting was attended by Minister of State for Power Shripad Yesso Naik, Members of Parliament, senior officials of the Ministry of Power and representatives of key power sector institutions, including the Central Electricity Authority, Grid Controller of India Limited and Central Transmission Utility of India Limited.

The committee discussed grid stability requirements arising from large-scale renewable energy integration, growing use of inverter-based generation resources and increasing electricity demand.

Key issues deliberated included transmission infrastructure, energy storage, forecasting systems, grid flexibility, power quality, reactive power support and resilience measures.

Members noted that maintaining grid stability is critical for supporting India's energy security and clean energy transition.

The committee members appreciated the integration of more than 50 GW of renewable energy capacity into the grid during the past year, along with ongoing measures such as resource adequacy planning, ancillary services, energy storage deployment, PMU-based monitoring, black-start drills and strengthening of technical standards.

The committee also endorsed several measures to enhance grid stability, including synchronising transmission infrastructure with renewable energy projects, promoting pumped storage projects, deploying voltage-support equipment such as STATCOMs and synchronous condensers, improving renewable energy forecasting, strengthening compliance monitoring and enhancing grid resilience in weather-prone regions.
