Javier Bordón

• PhD Researcher in International Relations, Lancaster University

I am PhD Researcher in International Relations at Lancaster University and SEPAD Fellow and Project Coordinator (the Sectarianism, Proxies and De-Sectarianization project).

I have co-convened and lectured at the module 'Peace Studies in the Middle East' and worked as teaching assistant at the modules 'International Relations: Theory and Practice' and 'Religion and Conflict' at Lancaster University.

My work lies at the intersection of International Relations, Middle East Studies and (International) Political Theory, where the relationship/interplay between security, identity and order and their empirical manifestations represent a main interest of mine.

My doctoral thesis combines securitisation theory, social theory and spatial theory to explore questions of order/ordering within countries (Saudi Arabia, Egypt) and across the region through the securitisation of the Muslim Brotherhood/Islamism.

My broader research interests include geopolitics, (critical) security studies, foreign policy, religion and politics, and state/regime-society relations in the Middle Eastern and North African context, with particular focus on Saudi Arabia, the Gulf, Yemen and Egypt.
