This is because the Uzbekistan national football team has secured a World Cup ticket for the first time in its history, marking a historic triumph and filling the nation with boundless pride. For many years, Uzbek football fans lived with the painful phrase, “we were just one step away”. However, the 0-0 draw against the UAE in Abu Dhabi on June 5, 2025, completely rewrote Uzbek football’s history. Our national team finally secured its long-awaited World Cup spot. According to the draw results, Uzbekistan has been placed in Group K for the 2026 World Cup. Our players will face Colombia, Portugal, and DR Congo in the group stage. The opening match will be against Colombia, a team known for its distinct South American football style. The clash is scheduled for June 18.
Five days later, the team will face its toughest group-stage challenge against Portugal. In the final round, our representatives will take the field against DR Congo. The head coach has already announced the 26-man squad for the World Cup. Before the tournament, our team was scheduled to play two friendlies. In the first friendly, our national team lost 0-2 to one of the tournament hosts, Canada. The next friendly will be against one of Europe’s giants – the Netherlands.
