Report Claims US Proposal to Iran Offers Economic Relief
(MENAFN) A prominent American journalist reported on Friday that he had obtained information regarding a recent United States proposal directed at Iran aimed at bringing an end to the ongoing conflict. The reported framework allegedly contains extensive economic incentives for Tehran, including compensation funds for war-related damages, permissions for oil trade, a phased release of frozen assets, and easing of sanctions.
Alex Marquardt, a correspondent for ABC, said on the US social media platform X and through his personal online page that the initiative would unfold in several stages and draw on a prior 14-point plan. He explained that the arrangement would take the form of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), which would initiate discussions toward a "final deal," with the most contentious matters postponed in order to facilitate an end to hostilities.
According to Marquardt, the reported proposal includes a substantial financial compensation mechanism for Iran’s damages, exemptions allowing Iranian oil exports, a gradual release of restricted funds, sanctions relief, and no definitive position on nuclear enrichment at this stage. He added that the agreement would be formally signed in Islamabad, Pakistan’s capital.
Under the terms described, both sides would immediately halt military actions, including operations in Lebanon, and commit to refraining from issuing further threats of force. The MOU would also open the door to negotiations on a “final deal” intended to formally conclude the conflict. Key issues such as nuclear enrichment and the handling of enriched materials would be deferred to later talks, while Iran would reportedly pledge never to pursue nuclear weapons development.
