US Assessment Warns Iran Conflict Benefiting China

(MENAFN) A classified American intelligence assessment has concluded that the US-Israeli conflict with Iran may have created significant strategic opportunities for China to weaken US influence across several global arenas, according to reports published Wednesday.

As stated by reports citing US officials familiar with the matter, the analysis was prepared by the Joint Staff’s intelligence directorate for General Dan Caine. The document reportedly examines the consequences of the conflict through four categories: diplomatic, informational, military, and economic.

The assessment surfaced shortly before planned talks in Beijing between US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping.

According to the report, since the US and Israel launched military operations against Iran in late February, China has expanded weapons sales to Persian Gulf nations that later faced retaliatory Iranian drone and missile attacks. Although Beijing has rejected accusations that it supplied arms directly to Iran, China has in recent years signed multi-billion-dollar defense agreements with Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

In the informational sphere, the report said the absence of authorization from either the US Congress or the UN Security Council enabled China to frame the conflict as unlawful while attempting to “undermine the image of the US as a responsible steward of the rules-based international order.”

The document also reportedly argued that the conflict has significantly strained American military inventories, particularly cruise missile and air-defense stocks that could be essential in a future confrontation involving Taiwan.

Another earlier report cited in the article claimed that Iranian retaliatory attacks on US military facilities in the region caused considerably greater destruction than publicly acknowledged by Washington, allegedly damaging or destroying at least 228 structures and pieces of equipment.

The analysis further suggested that China has used the conflict to study US military operations more closely and adapt its own strategic planning accordingly.
