Zelensky Says Lukashenko Must 'Stay Alert' In Case Of Aggression Against Ukraine

(MENAFN- UkrinForm) He made the remarks in his evening video address, according to Ukrinform.

"Today I am in Slavutych, in the north of our country. I spoke here today with community leaders from the northern regions – the Kyiv and Chernihiv regions. It is very important to support our people here and strengthen protection. That is exactly what we are doing," Zelensky said.

He added that the measures include fortifications and other defensive structures, as well as additional strengthening of the border.

"This concerns fortifications and other defensive works, additional strengthening of the border, as well as our Defense and Security Forces operating in this direction – toward Chernihiv and Kyiv from the territory of neighboring Belarus, which Russia is trying very hard to drag deeper into this war, and from the Bryansk region," he said.

Zelensky stated that Belarusian leadership must "stay alert" and understand that any aggressive actions against Ukraine would have consequences.

"We have the capability to strengthen [our defense], and we also have the ability to carry out preventive actions regarding Russian territory – from where threats may come – and regarding the actual leadership of Belarus, which must stay alert, meaning it must clearly understand that there will be consequences if there are aggressive actions against Ukraine and our people," he said.

Zelensky noted that Ukraine remembers the 2022 invasion launched from Belarusian territory and will not forget it.

He added that Ukrainian forces and intelligence services are fully aware of potential threats and how to respond appropriately.

Zelensky also said he discussed local infrastructure issues with community leaders from northern regions, particularly roads crucial for logistics and medical evacuation.

"We have many issues raised by communities bordering Belarus. And of course, air defense must be significantly strengthened. The Minister of Defense of Ukraine is aware of this priority; additional equipment will be allocated," he said.

The president concluded that he expects a follow-up report on the outcomes of the discussions.
