Putin Stresses Russia-China Ties “Not Directed Against Anyone”

(MENAFN) Russian President Vladimir Putin declared that relations between Moscow and Beijing had reached an "unprecedented level" ahead of his state visit to China, while insisting the two nations' deepening alliance was "not directed against anyone," according to remarks published Tuesday by a Russian state news agency.

In a video address released before his departure for Beijing, Putin said both countries were committed to broadening cooperation across politics, economy, defense, and humanitarian exchanges.

"Our friendship is not directed against anyone," Putin said, describing bilateral ties as grounded in "mutual understanding and trust" and mutual support for each other's core interests — including sovereignty and state unity.

Putin confirmed he was traveling to Beijing at the personal invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping, whom he called a "long-time good friend," stressing that sustained high-level engagement was essential to advancing the relationship.

He credited both nations with having forged a "genuinely strategic relationship and comprehensive partnership" in the 25 years since signing the Treaty of Good-Neighborliness and Friendly Cooperation — a landmark he framed as the bedrock of today's alliance.

"Their special nature is reflected in the atmosphere of mutual understanding and trust, a commitment to pursuing win-win and equitable cooperation, conducting respectful dialogue, and supporting each other on matters affecting the core interests of both countries, including protection of sovereignty and state unity," Putin said.

On the economic front, Putin reported bilateral trade had surpassed $200 billion, with transactions now conducted "almost entirely in rubles and yuan" — a deliberate shift away from Western-dominated financial systems.

He also welcomed the newly introduced mutual visa-free regime, voicing confidence it would stimulate tourism, business travel, and broader people-to-people ties. Putin closed by praising China's rich history and culture, signaling Moscow's ambition to further cement humanitarian and cultural bonds between the two nations.
