Trump Warns Iran as Tensions Rise Over Possible Renewed Conflict
(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump has issued a warning to Iran, stating that the country faces consequences if it does not quickly agree to concessions in talks with Washington.
Indirect negotiations between the two sides have remained frozen since a fragile ceasefire was reached in early April following a month of clashes involving US and Israeli forces. Both sides continue to reject each other’s conditions, with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi recently criticizing what he described as the US administration’s “maximalist approach” and aggressive rhetoric as key barriers to progress.
At the same time, tensions in the Strait of Hormuz have continued to disrupt global shipping and contribute to rising oil prices. Iran has reportedly introduced its own system to manage maritime movement through the strategic waterway, which handles around a quarter of global crude oil trade, while US authorities have rejected the plan and maintained pressure through naval measures against Iranian ports.
On Sunday, Trump posted on Truth Social, warning that “for Iran, the Clock is Ticking, and they better get moving, FAST, or there won’t be anything left of them. TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE!”
His remarks follow earlier controversy in April when he warned that Iran’s “whole civilization will die,” a statement that drew criticism from international leaders, including the UN Secretary-General, who said he was “deeply troubled,” and Pope Leo XIV, who called it “unacceptable.”
The latest warning came after a meeting with senior national security officials, including the vice president, secretary of state, CIA director, and a special envoy focused on Iran, according to reports.
Sources cited by US media said the Pentagon has already prepared potential target lists, including energy and infrastructure sites, in case military action is resumed. Additional reports suggest that US and Israeli officials are considering the possibility of renewed strikes, with some scenarios involving intensified bombing operations in the near future.
