Boko Haram Abducts Students in Attack on School in Nigeria’s Borno State

(MENAFN) At least 42 students were abducted during an attack attributed to Boko Haram in Nigeria’s northeastern Borno state, according to a Nigerian senator on Saturday.

Ali Ndume, who represents Borno South in the National Assembly, said the students were taken during a raid on a school in the Askira-Uba area on May 15, according to reports.

Local reports stated that the attack targeted a government day secondary school in Mussa village, where armed assailants stormed the area during early morning classes.

Ndume said the incident had left parents and guardians deeply distressed and traumatized, noting, “The school abduction is more terrifying because it happened when poor and resilient students were engaged in their early morning classes,” according to his statement.

He also urged security forces, particularly the Nigerian Army, to step up efforts to secure the release of the abducted students.

Nigeria has faced persistent violence from armed groups, including Boko Haram and the ISIS-affiliated ISWAP, in several regions across the country.
