Abu Dhabi, May 17 (Petra) -- The United Arab Emirates air defense forces on Sunday intercepted and destroyed two drones that crossed the country's western border, while a third drone struck an electrical generator outside the inner perimeter of the Barakah nuclear power plant, the Ministry of Defence announced.

The military strike targeted the civil nuclear infrastructure located in the Al Dhafra region, the ministry said in an official statement.

The defense ministry confirmed that an active investigation has been launched to determine the geographic origin and source of the drone attacks, adding that all updates will be disclosed immediately upon the conclusion of the inquiry.

The ministry emphasized that its military command is at the highest level of combat readiness to counter external threats, stating that armed forces will respond decisively to any attempts aimed at destabilizing national security, protecting its sovereign territory, and safeguarding its strategic national assets.
