Anti-War Protesters Interrupt Senate Hearing on Iran Conflict
(MENAFN) Anti-war protesters briefly disrupted a Senate subcommittee hearing on Tuesday featuring US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, where lawmakers were reviewing military funding and ongoing tensions involving Iran.
During Hegseth’s opening statement, several protesters wearing “No War on Iran” T-shirts stood silently behind him for several moments before being escorted out of the chamber by Capitol Police.
A separate protester later interrupted the proceedings, shouting: “If you approve this budget, you will be complicit in the war crimes of this administration,” before being removed by officers.
The hearing was focused on the administration’s proposed $1.5 trillion defense budget, as well as US military operations linked to Iran. Hegseth defended the spending plan, arguing it is needed to rebuild military readiness and maintain deterrence amid escalating tensions in the Middle East.
