Israeli Occupiers Enter Joseph’s Tomb Area in Nablus Under Army Protection
(MENAFN) Israeli forces carried out an early-morning operation in the eastern part of Nablus on Wednesday, escorting groups of visitors to the site known as “Joseph’s Tomb” in the occupied West Bank, according to reports from local sources.
Witnesses said dozens of participants arrived at the site under heavy military protection, with troops securing the surrounding area as they conducted religious practices. The operation was carried out during the early hours, with Israeli forces establishing road closures in the vicinity before gradually withdrawing around 7:30 a.m. local time.
The heightened military presence prompted local authorities to delay the start of the school day until 8:30 a.m., citing disruptions caused by the incursion and security measures in the area.
The site, located on the eastern edge of Nablus, lies in a zone that is administratively under Palestinian control and has long been a frequent flashpoint in the occupied territory.
Since 1967, Israeli authorities and religious groups have considered the location a sacred burial site associated with the biblical figure Joseph, son of Jacob. However, some archaeological perspectives challenge this claim, suggesting the structure is more recent and may instead be linked to a Muslim figure known locally as Yusuf Dweikat.
