Iran Threatens Higher Uranium Enrichment Over Possible Us-Israel Attack

(MENAFN) Iran has warned that it could significantly raise its uranium enrichment levels to as high as 90% if it faces another military attack from the United States and Israel, according to remarks made on Tuesday.

A spokesperson for the Iranian parliament’s Foreign Policy and National Security Committee, Ebrahim Rezaei, indicated that the issue would be reviewed by lawmakers. In comments shared on social media, he said: "We will review it in the parliament."

The warning comes amid heightened regional tensions that have persisted since the US and Israel carried out strikes against Iran on Feb. 28. Those attacks triggered Iranian retaliation targeting Israel and US-aligned partners in the Gulf region, alongside disruptions that included the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.

A ceasefire was introduced on April 8 following mediation efforts involving Pakistan, but subsequent negotiations held in Islamabad did not result in a durable settlement. The truce was later extended by US President Donald Trump, though no end date was established.

Iran also recently submitted its response to a US-backed proposal aimed at ending the conflict through Pakistan. However, Trump rejected the reply, describing it as "totally unacceptable."
