S. Korean Appeals Judge Found Dead During High-Profile Corruption Case

(MENAFN) A South Korean judge involved in a major appeals trial concerning corruption allegations against former first lady Kim Keon Hee has been found dead near a court complex in Seoul, according to local media reports.

Authorities said the judge was discovered early Wednesday on a landscaped area within the Seoul High Court grounds after a report of a person in distress was received shortly before. Police indicated that a note was found in his possession, which reportedly contained an apology but did not reference any court proceedings.

Investigators currently do not suspect foul play, though they are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the death, including the possibility of a fall.

The judge had recently been presiding over an appeal case linked to allegations of financial misconduct involving stock manipulation and the receipt of valuable gifts in connection with a religious organization. The case had drawn significant public attention due to the involvement of a former first lady.

Authorities have not released further details as the investigation remains ongoing.
