Hamas Holds Talks in Cairo to Advance Gaza Agreement Implementation

(MENAFN) The Palestinian group Hamas announces that its representatives are currently in Cairo, where they are holding discussions with mediators aimed at moving forward with the full application of the Gaza agreement, according to reports.

In statements given during an interview, Hamas spokesman Hazem Qassem says the talks focus on the ceasefire arrangement reached last October and efforts to ensure its implementation.

At least 824 Palestinians have been killed and 2,316 injured in Israeli attacks since the ceasefire was signed, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry.

The agreement was originally intended to bring an end to a prolonged conflict that has resulted in more than 72,000 deaths and over 172,000 injuries since October 2023, as stated by reports.

Despite the deal, ongoing Israeli military actions continue, alongside restrictions on the entry of essential supplies such as food, medicine, and shelter materials. These conditions have left around 2.4 million Palestinians—among them 1.5 million displaced—facing a worsening humanitarian crisis, according to reports.

"The Hamas delegation under the leadership of Dr. Khalil al-Hayya, is in Cairo, holding meetings with mediators to establish pathways for the full implementation of (US President Donald Trump's) peace plan for the Gaza Strip," Qassem added.

No additional information is disclosed regarding the timing or duration of the visit, as stated by reports.
