Japan Prioritizes Supply Chain Resilience in New Indo-Pacific Policy
(MENAFN) Japan highlights the strengthening of supply chain resilience in energy resources and critical materials as a central pillar of its updated Indo-Pacific strategy, according to reports.
Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi outlines the new policy during a speech delivered at Vietnam National University during her visit to Vietnam from Friday to Sunday.
The revised framework, titled the Updated Free and Open Indo-Pacific, reflects what officials describe as a rapidly changing global environment shaped by technological advances, growing challenges in developing regions, and increasing geopolitical competition.
The strategy identifies three main priorities: developing economic infrastructure for the AI and data-driven era with stronger supply chains for energy and critical materials; promoting growth through cooperation between public and private sectors alongside shared international rules; and expanding security partnerships to maintain regional stability.
According to reports, the document also includes several international initiatives, such as mineral recycling cooperation with ASEAN countries, joint research projects with Europe under Horizon Europe, and collaboration with France on rare earth processing.
Additional measures include efforts to reinforce pharmaceutical supply chains with the United States and providing unmanned aerial vehicles to countries such as Malaysia, Sri Lanka, and Tonga, among other programs, as stated by reports.
